Emus need a large fenced area with a high fence...about 6 foot. There aren't many on this board that have them, do a google search to see what all they require.

Hi, you can look on my website - chickenzoo.com under emu as pets for some ideas. I would personally opt for getting a baby emu to start out with unless the older ones are super super tame and are use to livestock. Emu chicks can be raised on a medicated chick starter for most of their growing months... up to a few months of age(4-6), then can be started on a emu chow or like what I use is my own blend of horse pellets, sweet feed, chicken layer, dog food or catfish pellets and bird seed. Mine refused the emu chow so I made my own. Male emu seem to be friendlier than females in general, I think because they are the ones that hatch the chicks.... Fencing - for adults use a strong cattle or horse wire fencing at least 5 ft high would be ideal, as they are good at jumping into things if scared or afraid. They do not tend to use a shelter or stall, but pick a favorite corner of the fence line to sleep. They love water and giving them a kiddie pool or pond gives them a place to cool off and you something to laugh at. They are fairly easy to care for and can be quite fun if you raise them correctly and if raised from a chick can be as friendly as a dog etc...
