It’s nice to meet you!

Glad to have you onboard and welcome to BYC! :welcome

The first step and most important step of building anything is location. Look around after a good hard rain in your yard, find a spot that the water drains away well. Never build in a low spot or where a post-rain stream will cross your yard. Few things suck as much as stomping thru a swamp to collect eggs or feed your birds. Plus it will absolutely make life hell for your chickens and it can lead to unhealthy dangerous conditions. Always build high and dry if you can. If you can't, then build up the coop/run floor with dirt till any water that gets in there drains out and away from your chickens.
If you don't get this first step right, not only will you regret it, but you'll be fighting an up hill battle for the duration of that coop.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for this info. I will definitely watch how rain/ water drains from the yard.
