I am a newbie and this is my first chick order. I ordered from Cackle Hatchery in January for delivery of chicks in April. Has anyone out there had experience with Cackle? Are they dependable about e-mailing prior to delivery? If you ordered from Cackle did they send you the breeds you ordered? Did the order come in the time frame you asked?

I filled out their order form in January because on the web site it indicated the earlier the better so they hatch the proper amount of birds requested. Also on the order form it asked when I would like deliverery and I said anytime in the month of April. So they are not late -- I am just anxious since this is my first time as a chicken momma. I ordered 30 chicks 5 of six different breeds. A friend is splitting the order with me.
Thanks for all your help-this site is great!!

You should have gotten a confirmation e-mail with your ship date in a pdf file when they charged your card (atleast, in my case).

We didn't pick a specific date, so I can't help you there. I placed my order early march and we got them the last day of march... They shipped on the initial date they told me they'd ship. 5 days later everyone is still alive and doing well so far. We placed a small order this year (17, 2 different breeds) and they gave us a total of 19.

Last year we also let them pick the date to ship, and were sent an e-mail within a few days of the date they'd be shipping. I think we ordered 25 that time and were sent 29 (4 different breeds). Everyone arrived ok, we ended up loosing 3 however. They were out of one of our breeds, and they did ship a supplemental breed HOWEVER they refunded my money for the breed that they didn't ship, so I ended up getting the 5 of the supplemented breed free.

All in all I have had good experiences with cackle, and i'll order again next year.

Hey this is me too! If anyone knows, did they lose any chicks in the mail? I live in Victor ID, and thats a long way for those chickies!!

Thank you for your replies. I did receive a confirmation # after ordering back in January. I figured it was because I ordered so early and I requested them for April that I haven't received a ship date. I had just followed their instructions to order early to assure the breeds I wanted. I will be VERY disappointed if I do not get the breeds I want. The reason I had ordered from Cackle is because they had all the breed I wanted including Welsummers and Cuckoo Marans which aren't as common.

I am a first time chicken momma and I was afraid I wouldn't have their nursery (I mean brooder and coop) ready before April. I have sent Cackle an e-mail and haven't received a response yet. I know this is their busy time of year. It is hard after three years of research and hours and hours working on a coop (which we are still working on but almost complete). I don't want to find out my order has been lost.

Until my chicks get here I am living vicariously through all you BYC's postings of your new chicks.

Try giving them a call, you will probably have to hit redial a lot of times but you will get thru. They were very helpful with my order over the phone and had my ship date within a few minutes for me.

I just got a response from my email I sent Monday. The Cackle representative was very nice and apoligized for the mix up. They received my order in January but for some reason it did not get processed. They thanked me for my order and said they will ship it out Monday April 11th. I am so excited. I was out in my garage working on the brooder when they called and everything is ready!

!! Today's the ship day! Mine often arrive the evening of the day they ship. Did yours arrive this evening? The post office calls me around 7pm. If you live further away from a main Post Office hub, though, it can be the next day.

And I have had good results with Cackle. They even gave me a girl as an extra one year. Perfect on sexing, too. But part of that is luck.

Sparklee, did you get your chicks last evening??? I am at work waiting for a phone call from the post office. I work 5 minutes from our local post office and only 5 more minutes from my home. I told them at work that Tuesday or Wednesday morning I may be called away to pick up my chicks. I have been teased at work and asked if I was going to apply for fml (family medical leave). lol Actually, I did go ahead and arrange to have Wednesday off.

Since it is nearly 8am I am assuming I am not getting my chicks today.

The post office said they would get them in with early morning delivery. I hope you received your deliver yesterday. Good Luck!
