Info on laying please

I have 4 Buffs that are 22 weeks and no eggs yet. Everytime I am at the store to buy eggs, my husband keeps asking "aren't you suppose to get those from the chicken"? LOL

Mine were hatched May 21, and not a single egg.

Not to boast or anything, but that very clever hen- 19 week old Tips- laid her second egg today (two days, two eggs) and she came running in from the far side of the garden to lay it in the nest box!!!! What a clever hen! I'm going to give her, her own bowl of yogurt tomorrow!

Hey Mom23, my hens were also hatched on May 21 and I just started to get about an egg a day from my Black Jersey Giant, Beatrice. I also got one egg from Harriett, my Light Brahama 10 days ago, and there was a rubbery egg on the coop floor this morning. Don't worry, they'll start soon!! Are you supplementing their light at all? I've been supplementing the light they get to 12 hours per day and I wonder if that's helping them along. I won't supplement their light next winter as they will deserve a break by then. Good luck, it'll be soon!! And it's sooooo thrilling when you FINALLY get one!!!

I just went out to see the girls and lo and behold. There was an egg in a nest box right where it should be!!!!!! You'd think she knew what she was doing!! I don't know which one did it, but I was soooo excited i got my camera out and took a picture. My husband thinks I am nuts. His Grandmother was a chicken rancher with a few hundred chickens years ago and I am sure they never got excited over an egg, much less took a picture of one. Hahaha!! Oh well, you guys know how I feel. I just had to tell someone that understood. Yeah!!!!

I have 3 BOs that are 24 weeks and they have been laying since they were 20 weeks. I also have 4 BOs that are just now 20 weeks and they aren't laying yet. They still aren't laying in the nesting boxes.

I've tried the golf ball. They have no interest in it. I think I'm going to take it and have DH revamp it.

I am fortunate to have a few of my husbands Grandmothers old glass eggs for my girls to sit on. Maybe that helped her hit the nest box first try.

I read some place that if you feed fruit to egg layers they stop laying for weeks. Have any of you had this happen?

Thanks,

Ann
