Absolutely normal. Takes some time for them to be able to lay full size eggs. You may also get some eggs with no shell. They are still edible but feel pretty gross to pick up!
OK next question ,we picked up some other ducks(Indian runners n a silver appeal yard) the magpies won't let the ones any where near them, keep chasing them off .will this take long to get them together .
I got my original magpies as a favor to a friend. She needed to rehome them when she wanted to focus on runners. I fell in love with them right away. I have been "collecting" every magpie that I can find. Here in NY they are really hard to come by, but I have managed to get 9 to this point both in black and blue as well as a crested. I did hatch one out last year and right now I have 7 eggs in the incubator doing great. I also just shipped my first bunch out.
I have two Magpie ducks, they're about 3 years old. They are beautiful aren't they?!
In my experience, they all have very distinct personalities! My drake Puddles is very affectionate and protective of me, and also seems somewhat territorial. We have wild turkeys often in our yard and they are HUGE...this little confident duck charges toward them to make them leave, lol!!
My females could take me or leave me (plural because one was killed by a hawk last year). Elvis (yes, turned out to be a girl!) is a spazz but it's so funny. She tries to love me like Puddles does but gets nervous and runs away. She and my other duck lay(ed) a big egg every single day except during the winter. If you take their eggs, they'll make a new nest somewhere else, so be on the lookout! They started laying eggs when they were almost a year old, I think.
They are so great, and they crack me up. Have fun with your duckies!
