Just starting the chicken plunge. Need a better coop than the awful flimsy doll house I found and bought online. Plan to have 3-4 chickens. Layers and pets. Just a "hobby" lol. Are there used coops? Number one concern, predators. Live in Va. In the Northern Neck.

Welcome to BYC and the chicken adventure!
You can sometimes find used coops - or structures easily converted to coops (sheds, animal shelters, homemade playhouses, swingset forts, etc) on craigslist, facebook buy/sell/trade sites, etc. Another option is that even the most unhandy person can build a simple coop, often with reclaimed/repurposed materiel making the actual cost of the project close to nothing. There are a few different fairly straightforward and easily built coops in various threads and articles here on BYC.
My daughter and new son-in-law are embarking on their first building project ever - a coop - if they can do it, anyone can, lol.

Welcome!

You have received some great advice from Ol Grey Mare so I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
