Inherited equipment from Charlie, what to do now though (Pics added)

Wow thanks for all that info. I sure do appreciate it. The stickers on the doors are what I was going by, one says Professional Model 1500 and the other says Model 1550. I have all the racks for them and a few extra. Charlied hatched a lot of bigger exotic birds so that would fit on the size of the trays. How do you adapt them for smaller eggs? I've got them in the front yard to clean them all, can I wash out the inside with a hose if I make sure not to get the heat element and such wet? I wasn't sure because of the materials they are made out of. It's up to 100 here already so they would dry pretty quickly. I'll get a pic of the brooder today, my son had the camera all yesterday. There was another brooder but I just don't have room because it's on wheels and about 4 feet tall and has several compartments stacked over each other.
Oh, and you think Flat Top's a girl? I was hoping maybe a roo since I have two Turkens, but Flat Top is confused no matter how you look at it. She tries to mate the other hens but then she gets mounted by Cogburn!

They are older sportsman models. They are not state of the art but they are indeed VERY good models to have! I really wish you could find a place to keep them. Brand new sportsman now are $600 each and you have to pay to get one shipped so that raises the price. Those waterers that are used for the humidity water tray auto fill are not cheap either. If you keep those you will never want to use a small bator again. For about $70 you can upgrade to the new electronic thermostat GQF is making standard on the Sportsman cabinets.

I was thinking of trying a hatch with one, but I only have 25 Pheasant eggs, 24 Button eggs, and 15 Jap. Quail eggs to put in right now and that just doesn't seem worth running a huge bator like that. How is the electrical use on them?

I hope you find a way to use these for yourselves. That was an awesome gift left for you all. Try your best to find a place for them so that you can keep them. With the way the economy is going it may come in handy later.

That is exactly why we started this project, trying to help families help themselves! If we can get enough money from these we could get several smaller bators and have them in more classrooms. That was pointed out in a message by someone I wish had posted it here. They made a good point, if we can have more classes involved then we help more people and more students have the opportunity to learn.

I took the top off one and it has black water line and drum in it I have the white part that shows on the other one it's just not on it.

Oh, I understand now, bless your heart, its like your stuck between a rock and a hard place right now about this. have you thought of ebay or craigslist. Alot of people are getting into chickens, now is a good time to sell, but don't seel short. Remember who its for, In memory of Charlie.

they r the newer ones, if u look in the pics inside on the incubator top left side, there is a black box. that is the electronic thermastat. if it was an old style it would have 2 wafers on the right side like mine do.

my honest opinion is if u don't have room for them keep the sportsman bator and everything u need for it and sell the rest to get the right equipment u need for shool. keep one of the trays w/lid out of the hatcher and move it to the bottom of the bator so u have a hatcher in it because it's missing it. if u do that then u'll have one to keep for u as a special gift from charlie and then u can get what u need for useing at school so u always have something from him to share with the kid's too. that way u always have something special from him and u can share it always and lots of kid's can share in that with u and learn. i don't think charlie would mind at all, i think he'd love that. that way his gifts he left u all got to be used, he could share his love in hatching and such with many many more people.

i don't always fill mine i do smaller hatches too nothing wrong with that, i've never completely filled them yet. u can do speratic hatches no prob just rotate the racks and mark date on the eggs for day they get moved to the hatcher. for the most part u pretty much don't need to do anything it is so much easier and nicer to use. after useing mine i'll never get another bator unless it is an upgraded one. i think if u do pass on keeping the sportsman u'd regret it later because it is an excellet bator to have and use. try useing it for awhile and see how u like it and think about that hard before u decide to part with it.

i have 2 sizes of racks for mine. one came with 6 white ones and the other came with 6 blue ones. they make different sizes for them, they are around $20 a set depending on where u get them. i also use egg cartons in them if eggs r to big or too small but they need a wedge on side so they don't slide side to side. u also can use foam to hold them too. yes u can wash it out as long as u protect the electronics of it.
