My chicken (a barred rock & she is 23 weeks old) got attacked a little over a week ago by one of my little dogs. Well he did a number on her. She is still alive so far though. She ended up with a puncture wound on her back. I have doctored the wound by what I have found on the forum. If anyone is curious, first I did was put hydrogen peroxide on the wound. Then flushed with a little water. Then I dried the wound as much as I could so I could put regular neosporin on it and then I sprayed with screw worm spray. It seems to be healing slowly.

Currently my concern is her right leg. When the attack first happened, she would hop across the yard when I tried to catch her. But I have had her in a dog kennel in my shop with pine shavings since then along with food and water. She doesn't eat a lot but I have given her a crumbled egg yolk with her layer crumbles. For the first couple days I did add electrolytes to her water. I don't know if it broken or dislocated. My BF and I think it is dislocated. What can one do if it is? When she sits the leg lays outward pretty straight.

Any suggestions?

Is she putting any weight on it at all? Even when she hops? If so, it's not dislocated or completely broken. If no, you really just need to pick her up, feel all her joints, and feel if the joints are together. If they're not, she really needs a vet visit.

As is the nature of injuries, the longer you wait the harder it is to fix.

Good job on the rest of her treatment - I would see what you think about this, let us know please what you find here on *this* thread. Thanks!

I did go feel her leg at the joints. It seems to me that it may be torn. When I tried to have her stand (also I was helping her by holding her underneath) so I could see if she would bare any weight, it seemed to me she would try to put weight but of course she couldn't bare hardly any weight.

Do you think this will heal on its own? If so, how long would it take to recover?
