I have one 3 day old chick out of 16 that is injured. I unknowingly took a little down when I clean a very matted poopy butt yesterday. Tonight, she is sore and missing a lot of down on her hind end. I have put coconut oil on it to help it heal and have separated her but she' very unhappy. She's in a brooder next to her sister w/food and water but is very loud and unhappy. Did I do the right thing in separating her until she's healed so her sisters won't continue to peck her? Thanks for your advise...

Yes, I think you did the right thing by separating her. Maybe add a mirror or something soft to snuggle on to her brooder to help her with her loneliness.

If she is being really loud and unhappy, you could try adding one of the tamer chicks with her. Just be sure the chick isn't aggressive and pecking her. Having one of her friends with her may calm her down a little.

Yes. I put a wrapped up towel with mine (like a mother hen.) and she snuggled with it and fell asleep.
