Hi all,
One of my girls started bleeding... a lot. It was coming from her toenail. It was the tip of the toenail, apparently, chickens must have a full blood supply to the very end of their nails, unlike parrots ( which is what I have 20 years of experience with. )
I managed to stop the bleeding after 30 minutes with styptic powder. (I prefer flour, but, in this case it wouldn't stop for anything else.)
Now, she is standing apart from the flock on one leg. Is this a normal behavior after something like this? It is in the 40s here and I'm concerned she may have lost too much blood. (In a parrot, every drop counts, does that apply here?)
What is the best course of action?
