We are newbys too. All of our hens have always been healthy. However today my dog grabbed one and gummed her for quite a bit (she's soaked) and her neck has been gashed. Doesn't seem to be really bothering her. I have her snug in a box inside since it is cold tonight and she's still soaked. How do I clean the wound or do i? I see a few mentioned bag balm? Any advice? I thought to keep her in for a few days just because I don't want the wound to get dirty???
not only would i like advice on my injured daisy may, (chicken) but i would love to get any suggestions on how to train my "flock dog" to stop harming my FLOCK!! ugggghhh she doesn't try to harm them, she just likes to use them (especially this one) as a chew toy :/
This is my 9 week old bard rock.I can't tell if she's injured or sick or what. It has been very hot here in new York but all the other girls seem to be doing fine. She's eating and from what I can tell drinking but when I hold her she lays on her side and there when I set her down I dropped her a couple feet off the ground (to see if it was a problem with her wings) and she flapped a little but did a complete faceplant. I have her indoors at the moment to see if she needs cooling off. Please help, this is my first time getting chickens and I'm 14 and have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to sick chickens. HELP her eyes seem hazy compared to the other girls and she is making cooing sounds that I've never heard antly of them make
Unfortunately that bard rock died and I found out of what, STARVATION! apparently the other chickens were not letting this one got to the food. My other bard rock was having the same simtoms as this one before it died so I took it to the vet. The vet told me that my chicken was so skinny that it wasnt even funny. He said that there's a slight change she'll even make it. He said to feed her wet cat food but she will hardly take it. Does anyone know any other ways to fatten up a chicken quickly before its to late?
