Injured Cornish X

Next time I'm going with Rangers, I swear. Cornish have lots of problems and I thought I could mediate some of them, but its really not worth the worry and disappointment.

I liked that it was over and done with. However those birds gave me so much anxiety for the nine weeks they were on this earth!! I'd still raise them again over rangers just for the feed costs.

Idk what your dog is like, but it is possible that the dog was trying to play and hurt her??

I suppose its possible, but I highly doubt it. She tends to herd the babies and is more likely to nip at the adults when they're bullying the little ones. She seems to know that they're babies, and she's always been good with little chicks. I would be really surprised if she was at fault, honestly.

I had intended on red rangers initially and defaulted to Cornish X's because the rangers were out of stock at the time I ordered. Ive heard about the feed cost discrepancies between the breeds, due to the rangers generally taking longer to mature, but I didn't really want to deal with the issues with the Cornish, and the high chick mortality that tends to happen while they're growing.

To elaborate: the day I planned to put her down, I went out to get her and she had escaped her sling and was standing and yelling at me for food. Been watching her the past two days to be sure of her healing, and she's even been reincorporated into her little flock. :) glad to say she healed well and is almost back to 100%!

Wow! Happy to hear she had a positive outcome despite the odds.

I have heard of even the best dogs killing/playing/hurting birds they have protected there whole life.
So am I, I was really expecting the worst!
Me to! Glad it worked itself out!

A funny side effect of this whole thing that I've noticed is, she's actually quite friendly now, which I feel a little bad about 😅
She comes right up to people, closer than the others, even though they chase me anytime they spot me, she'll try to fly up to land on me, though she can't quite get all the way to my shoulder yet. Spunky little pullet, I really doubted she would pull through.
