Injured Duck and Chicken will only eat treats-not their feed

Tuesday (about 3 days ago) someone’s husky got into our back yard and killed 3 of my 6 ducks and injured one duck and one chicken. The chicken is a year old and has been laying eggs for a long time and the duck is 7 months old but just started laying about a month ago since winter ended. The attack was an absolute nightmare, my ducks are pets to me and a big part of my life. I miss the ones that died and hate that they died in such an awful way :(

The emergency vet came and sutured the chicken’s large wound it had on it’s back (she had to pull the skin back together) and my duck had two puncture wounds that needed sutured, but her wounds seem a lot less serious than the chicken’s (even tho the duck has a limp on the side the wounds are on). They’ve been on antibiotics the vet prescribed (doxycycline twice a day).

They’ve been drinking water since they got hurt, but won’t eat their feed. Wednesday they would eat some scrambled eggs but not much. Yesterday (Thursday) I mixed their feed with some scrambled eggs, tomatoes, and peas but they’d pick out the treats and not eat the feed. Today again they would eat eggs, tomatoes, and peas. But no feed!
They also have not laid eggs since the attack.

Should I be very concerned? When can I expect them to eat like normal? Should I try another way to get them to eat?

Behavior wise, they spend most of their time resting (as they should) on their heat pads. They’re mobile enough to get off the heat pads at will and get up to get to the food and water that’s nearby. My duck has started to act normal, preening and wagging her tail when I walk in the room. The chicken seems to be getting better but it’s harder for me to tell just bc she’s not as emotive as my duck.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

They are probably still in slight shock - as mommies we want to coddle them and nurse them back to health. Offering the treats probably spoiled them a little and now they’re holding out for them. I would stop all treats immediately and just leave their regular food in with them. They will most definitely eat before they starve to death.

When they wouldn’t eat any feed I thought trying other things would be better than nothing, but maybe you’re right.
Although, they wouldn’t even eat more than several bites of treats, so it makes me think their appetite isnt very strong bc usually they are both gluttons for tomatoes (eating every bit til it’s gone).
Thanks for replying!
