Last night or morning my duck was (I believe ) attacked and now has a big hole in her bill. I know it is hurting her a lot because she won’t use it to eat or forage. She will eat in her pool though. Please let me know if I can do anything.

Try to keep the pool and her bill as clean as possible so it doesn’t get infected. I would think to clean it with saline or water and put Neosporin w/o pain reliever? Maybe someone can clarify if it’s okay to use Neosporin near her mouth. Keep feeding her in her pool so she’ll eat and soon she should be able to eat normally. Electrolytes could be helpful just to make her feel a little better. As long as it doesn’t get infected it will heal just fine

Was your duck inside a shelter when this happened? sometimes if ducks sleep inside their pen they will sleep up against the fence making it easy for a predator to reach in and grab one and try to pull them through the fence or just take a bite. That is where hardware cloth comes in handy putting it up along the sides of the fencing can keep predators from access to our ducks. Good idea to cover the top of the run if they are sleeping outside too.

No last night was the first night she accidentally didn’t get put away. She usually does get put into a house with a shut door. I think maybe a dog grabbed her beak through the wire (she’s not scared of them and will go towards them to buck them off).
