My mom found this duck a few days ago in my uncle’s driveway, it was laying there covered in ants and flys. It looked like it had been attacked by a dog. She said it bled a whole ton. We’ve been trying to care for it the past few days, and it seemed to be doing better, but it stared leaking brownish liquid or blood the past 2 days. When I looked I found this, I think it may have been rubbing at its chest with its beak and opened up a wound. I don’t know what to do though.
What is that grayish glob hanging out? Is that it’s guts!? What is it? I had tried to gently push it back, but it won’t go in, and I’m afraid to hurt it. But it just keeps leaking and it smells awful. I kind of want to take it to the vet, but they don’t open till monday, and I also don’t know if I can afford it or if it’s even worth it.

The second day we had it I was trying to clean its wounds and there was little worms or maggots all over it, and we had to completely wash it to get those off, I hope I didn’t open this wound by doing that.
The duck just lay in a cage all day, it stands up sometimes but mostly just lays there. It seems to have bumble foot but I’m afraid to do anything about that until it’s healed up. It has been eating and drinking a bit. Mostly chicken feed but I bought some crickets and it ate a bunch of those.
I just don’t know what to do about this, does anybody know what this is?

I don’t know what that is but don’t try an push it back in. Do you have Veterycin for wounds an infections? Saline wash? This duck needs a vet as soon as possible. Looks like maybe a bite wound and if it is smelling it’s probably infected. How many wounds does it have?

I don’t think I have any Veterycin. And I can’t take it to the vet until Monday. I don’t know how many wounds it has, I didn’t see it until they had mostly scabbed over. My mom didn’t want me cleaning it for about a day because she was afraid it would start bleeding again. It had already lost a lot of blood. I can’t tell how many wounds it has now.

How did you get all the maggots out with out finding the wounds? You really need to find all her wounds trim feathers back away from them so you can treat them properly.

That looks infected, do you have any antibiotics on hand, if so what, and how many? If you don't your local pet store may have Amoxicillin or Cephalxen that is intended for fish, but can be used on birds. Trim the feather surrounding the wounds, then flush generously with saline or chlorhexidine to dislodge any dead tissue and foreign matter, then an antibacterial ointment like Neosporin or a poultry spray should be sprayed on.

Birds that are in shock are often hypothermic so it'd be advised that you set the duck in a warm 80F* area (watch for signs of overheating like panting, wing sticking out from body, etc.) make sure the area is stress-free, and dimly lit.

After she has stabilized I may do a quick check on how dehydrated she is, by pinching her skin and see how quick it is to retract, if it take a few seconds to retract and tighten she's most likely dehydrated, some other good signs are sunken eyelids, pale skin, and overall lethargy. If she is showing any of those, I would start giving her oral fluids, immediately.

A good start would be getting some pet aquarium tubing, and either a 30/60ml syringe, which TSC should have. Or better, an 18 french red rubber catheter.Let me know if you can get those.

I might just get the tubing feeding supplies now, because I wouldn't be surprised if he's already dehydrated. Is that an option? I can let you know what you need to get.
Would it hurt to put Blu Kote on it, that’s really all I have right now, I’ll need to buy some stuff tomorrow.
The vet isn’t open until monday.
The duck is eating and drinking, we’ve had to hand feed it the past few days but it drinks on it’s own, and just now I saw it eating on its own. I’ve also fed it quite a few crickets, and it’ll gobble those down.
We are keeping it inside, we did have a light on it but turned it off because it seemed to be getting too hot, it was panting and stopped when we turned off the light.
I just don’t know what to do with it, it’s stinking up the entire house, it’s poop smells terrible, we keep having to change out the towels in it’s cage every few hours. My dad is getting sick of it, because of the smell.
The wound also smells awful. I’ve been cleaning it off, and i’ve put some iodine on it, I just really don’t have much to treat it with right now.
We got the worms off by soaking it in warm water and giving it a bath, I couldn’t figure out where some of the wounds were because there were so many feathers around them.
It’s hard to get to the ones on it’s stomach cause it moves around so much when I try to flip it over.
I’m just sick of this duck, it’s worrying me to death, there’s not much I can do for it at the moment.
I’m afraid of how much it will cost if I take it to the vet.
I don’t even know whos duck this is, it’s not mine, it’s not my uncle’s. It probably belongs to someone on my road, I know one lady has a pond but I’ve never seen what her ducks look like so I don’t know if it’s hers. Another lady also has some ducks. We’ve had a lot of trouble with one neighbor’s dogs, they’ve attacked horses and 2 people. They wander around in packs at night. Animal control have caught 2 of them but there’s still a ton. Those dogs are probably what got a hold of this duck.

Here’s a picture from tuesday, which is when my mom found it, so it’s been about 5 days. She said it just lay flat for that whole first day, but recently it has been standing up and moving around a bit. It seems to be doing a lot better but that wound stated leaking yesterday I think.
