Hi, this is my first time posting, so I hope I’m in the right spot.. a few months ago we had a fox attack our 4 ducks. 2 were killed and 1 was injured. When I found her that morning, she was sitting in the pond shivering, unable to get out. We got her out and brought her inside, she didn’t have any wounds other than a broken wing and a big bump on what seemed like her hip area. We kept her inside for a few weeks, letting her swim in the tub and giving her lots of TLC. She’s been back outside with our other duck for a while now, still has a limp but has been moving around a good amount, getting in and out of the pond, eating and drinking.
Yesterday morning when I went outside, she was again sitting in the pond shivering, like she had been in there all night and was unable to get out. I picked her up and sat her down and it seemed like she was unable to put weight on either side. I put her in a comfy spot in her coop with food and water and left for work. When I got home to check on her, she was still in the same exact place, but had eaten and been drinking water. Today she is still in the same exact place, still eating and drinking, but seems to really be struggling to move around.
Any tips on what I can do to help her would be really appreciated. The other duck is male, and I’m wondering if he mated her a little too rough and hurt her some how. I really don’t want her to be suffering, but I’m at a loss…

Until you can figure out what is wrong I’d separate her and the drake but keep them so they can still see each other. How does her hip look and feel?her hip my be out of joint. Water therapy is good it takes pressure off the legs and back also helps you see how she be moves her legs when in the water. Do you have any human or animal meloxicam? It is for pain and inflammation. She may not have been over the injury from the fox attack and the drake mating her has reinjured her hip. Is a vet an option?

When the initial attack happened I called every vet in town, found one that would see her in the next town over. He told me that he didn’t have any experience with ducks, but that all it seemed at the time was the she had the equivalent to a broken finger. At that time we had her inside and did lots of water therapy. I don’t have meloxicam, but I do have baby aspirin, I read somewhere I could give her that? Is that true? If so, how do I give it to her and how much? I think I will separate them today. I have a big enclosed run that has a door in the middle, so they both have their own ponds and space, and are just separated through chicken wire.

Yes you can give baby aspirin here is info

after she has been separated and has had a few days rest let us know how she is doing. It's good she will have her own pool make sure she can get in and out without making the injury worse.
So the vet said her injury was like a broken finger did that mean she had a broken bone? Any injury to the legs back hips will take a good while to heal. Also try some liquid B Complex it is really good for leg support. TSC carries one called Durvet liquid B Complex it will say injectable but we use it orally 1 ml daily over a small tasty treat or by mouth.

She had part of her wing broken, that he was saying was equivalent to a finger. When I checked on her today she had moved from the spot she had been in, not far at all, but had moved. Still eating and drinking. I separated the two of them. I held her in the pond and she did move her legs around a little bit and flapped her wings as well. It seems like her backside is drooping, if that makes since, almost like a tail between her legs kind of look. I will get to tractor supply today and look for the b complex. Thank you for all of your help!
