A gosling hatched with a splayed leg. The adult geese would not let us get it early on. Later the cat brought the baby into the kitchen. The splayed legs were treated with a hobble made from an elastic hair tie as see on u tube. It worked beautifully. Baby is walking and growing. Problem is the beak was injured at some point. As baby grew a blackened area dropped away exposing a small area of missing beak substance. The area is near the nostril and that nostril injured and seems to be healing closed or is closed. Baby seems to be pulling during inhalation and occasionally open his mouth seeming to gulp air. Otherwise eating, pooping, growing, and making adorable noises. He gets a daily bath and dunks his head under the water and preens normally. We hoped the nostril would open up with growth but it now looks like the problem will not self correct. Concerns the labored breathing might worsen with growth and activity putting a strain on the heart. Any and all advice appreciated.
