Hello! About a week ago I bought 2 Americaunas. When I was buying them I saw another in the box that was injured, it looked like it may have had splayed leg. Yesterday I went back and she was still there. I took her home because I knew how to treat splayed leg. Now I'm not too sure that it is truly splayed leg! I think she may have a slipped tendon or some other kind of injury. Her right foot is extremely swollen and large and she holds it out when she walks. Any ideas?

Sorry about your chick. There are a number of chick leg bone deformities including slipped tendon and several others. Most of those can cause swelling of the hock, but I am not aware that the lower leg or foot swells with those problems. Hock swelling and redness is almost always present in slipped tendon. Perhaps the swelling has moved downward into the foot, but I have not experienced that. An injury such as a bad sprain or a broken leg could cause swelling of the foot and hock. I would probably use chick vitamins, and maybe try splinting or a chick chair or sling to get her upright for several hours at a time so she can eat and drink, and give her some time to see if she gets better. If she gets much worse, then you should make plans for how ro put her down so she doesn't suffer.

Well I made a chick chair and a splint. I had the splint on her all day yesterday and today I took it off and she seems to be walking pretty well! She is eating and drinking as well so I'm not sure where to go from here
