Injured muscovy

Good news - his wing is slowly getting better. He’s flapping it a bit in his warm bath this morning. Doesn’t look as droopy today. He’s resting outside during the day now in a confined space on the grass - too poopy being inside lol. He needs to enjoy the sunshine and be a duck.

I’ll keep his wing strapped for a while longer yet.

Hi Lydia. He’s getting stronger every day. Thanks heaps for asking.

He spends all day outside now - separated from the others and restricted in movement but happy in the grass where the others can roam around him.

He’s still inside with us at night. Loads of treats, spoilt heaps and loves a pat round the neck. He has a spot in the house at the kitchen window next to our budgies chirping and he loves looking out the window.

Still no use of his leg. I think it’s useless now, poor dude. It’s okay. I don’t work, so have plenty of time/space to help him. I miss how he was before the attack. He used to run to me from all the way up the back when he heard me coming. Sweet little boy.

I have other pets who are special needs or rescues. I just love looking after them.

Sounds like he has a dedicated person who will love him and look after him no matter what. I am sorry the leg still isn't working but he sounds happy and being able to be out with his flock even if he can't waddle around with them I am sure helps his frame of mind. Thank you for updating and please let us know how he is doing from time to time.

What are your other special needs pets? If I may ask.

Thx yeah I think he’s lost muscle/nerves in his back which make his leg and wing work.

I love him to bits. I’m a disability carer for humans. My son has autism and I work with disabled humans (not working atm, my son is homeschooled) and also do teacher aiding with Spec Ed students.

My caring work also extends to animals. So besides our injured duck, we also have a staffy who has aggressive cancer, food allergies and separation anxiety (she’s on eastern meds and a cancer diet, doing well). Chooks, ducks, guinea pigs (who just had a surprise litter) and fish. Most of our pets are rescues and have extra needs. My kids love learning about caring for everybody. I’m looking for more land, so we can spread out. I’d love a little rescue/disabled pet hobby farm.
