Help!! We have a rooster that has an injured toe and we think he cut a tendon. We have been treating it with polysporin but it doesn’t look to good and he hasn’t been eating or drinking, we managed to get him to drink a little bit but it took some convincing.

he is a leghorn. Any ideas on what to do?

Severe toe injuries on chickens will often auto-amputate. It appears from what I can see in the photo that this is what may be happening.

It's sometimes possible to reverse the process by soaking the injured foot in warm Epsom salts once or twice a day to try to improve circulation, and use Vetericyn wound spray on it several times a day.

If he loses the toe, he'll be fine. Here's a thread where the chicken lost both feet to auto-amputation. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/matilda-is-going-to-lose-her-feet.1454933/

Thank you for the help but we can’t find vetericyn in our town and all the vets are closed because it Sunday, would anything else work? Also he is becoming weaker but we will keep trying to get him to eat and drink

Give him a glucose boost by putting sugar in his water. Tempt him to eat with a soft boiled or scrambled egg.

Vetericyn is sold at feed stores and is often found in the horse supplies or the meds shelf.

You can also order it online. https://www.amazon.com/Vetericyn-Poultry-Spray-Chickens-Species/dp/B00UTDXBX6/ref=sr_1_8?crid=18JLFL9D0AUSR&dchild=1&keywords=vetericyn+plus&qid=1622396230&sprefix=Vetericun,aps,298&sr=8-8
Ok I will try that. I will keep you updated. Thank you

Thank you for the help but he didn’t make it :( he perked up when we gave him some sugar water to drink and a little scrambled egg but he got weaker after a few hours.
