Injured Rooster

Hi! DS noticed that our rooster was limping severly on a leg, when we went out to check it appeared swollen and red. We have seperated him to keep him off of it and others from picking on him. DH checked his foot and we can see no apparent injury, he does not seem in pain either. Roger allows us to move it and he does not appear to be in any stress. Any ideas? Can we leave him with the others? HELP :| we are newbies and this is our first injury.

Yes separate him (limiting his movement will aid in any healing)
lower the protein content of the feed (this often exasperates many conditions known for leg symptoms>this in case it is not just an injury)
Ensure he drinks and eats sufficiently and monitor any further symptoms.

I'm curious as to how this roo did with his injury.

I found our roo limping yesterday as well and his r foot looks swollen and red. I did some research and found something called bumblefoot that you treat with antibiotics or surgery if it is bad.

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

How does one immobilize a roo when trying to treat him anyway?

Well, I've checked him out, he doesn't have a wound that I can see, but his foot er, toe is very red and swollen, and the toe almost looks broken. Poor guy, he just hops around on one foot and holds it up, then sits next to the hens, only to have to move and hop to keep up with them trying to do his roosterly duty in protecting them.

Should I put him in a cage for a while so he will rest it, or will that drive him nuts to not be with his girls.
