Hi,

So I was wondering from other peoples experiences how well an injury on the webbing of a ducks' foot can heal.

I had to travel for a week and left my ducks in the care of my parents. One duck was healing from bumblefoot and had bandages on her foot that needed to be changed. So I arranged for the vet to change them and all my parents had to do was bring the duck to them. Seems that at the vet, one of the techs was using scissors to remove the bandage and made a cut in her webbing about 1.5 inches deep. They stitched it up at no charge and it was only been a week after. So I am wondering if an injury like this will heal nicely and just leave a scar. I couldn't find much about the healing of the webbed part of their feet.

Any input is appreciated! Hate to see that this happened to my baby.

Yeah, I saw that post. Was very informative. I was wondering more how tears in the webbing heal with stitches. Does it merge back together over time?

Next time I change the wrapping, I'll try to snap one. I keep her foot bandaged and change it everyday. I also put a pool noodle cut to her foot shape inside the bandage and under her foot so it keeps it dryer throughout the day.

She has a follow up tomorrow. But I am still curious.

Hate to see them with any injury!!! Want to just baby them.

OMG I bet that tech and vet were HORRIFIED! (Not to mention you!) I don't have experience with this. I've seen ripped webbing but there was nothing left to suture.

She had a follow up with the specialist vet. Basically was told the torn edges healed and the stitches the other vet put in wouldn't work. He said that it's just cosmetic and not worth the cost and stress of putting her through a surgery to fix it. Would mean cutting off the edges of the tear and stitching it while fresh together.

So she is just a duck with a 1.5 inch slit in her webbing. Doesn't bother her at all, even though it breaks my heart. She's as happy as can be.
