Input needed. Aftercare for a hen post egg binding incident.

Passover ended last Thursday. The chickens were fed wild bird seed, vegetables, grasses, and soaked matzah (kind of a cracker) because I can’t feed them their feed over Passover.
So how many days did she go without her normal feed?

8 days :barnie
Can you clean her up more, I am having a hard time seeing the tissue.
I would like to, but she seems to be sore in that area. I will do my best to clean her up later tonight or tomorrow morning with a washcloth and warm water.

Well looks like I have an after dinner project.
If I don’t have saline or chlorhexidine would betadine or some other wound disinfectant work?
I would use betadine, and you can make your own saline, just google homemade saline recipes.

This is the best I could do for now. She was pissed. Also she went straight for the oyster shell when I put it in her cage. The arrow points to what is attached to inside of her vent or further in her body.

Thankfully it’s just once a year. It pains me so to see my chickens so unhappy.
I’m sorry she’s not doing well. :(

I’m curious why you would make your animals adhere to your religious beliefs? I have a lot of friends & family who have strong religious values. None of my Jewish friends have ever made their pets observe Passover. None of my Catholic friends have ever made their pets give up something for Lent. None of my Mormon friends have ever made their pets fast at the beginning of the month. Even I, as a strict vegetarian, do not make my carnivorous animals eat a vegetarian diet.

Don’t take this the wrong way, I’m genuinely curious, because I’ve never known anyone to do this before. By your own words, it makes you and your animals unhappy, so why force them into a lifestyle that they did not choose & that is unhealthy for them?

I too think that her vent needs a good warm soak & I hope you can save her.:fl
