Inspired to keep indoor duck

I have 14 ducks and 4 of them are Call Ducks. They are in a very large pen outside with the other ducks and love it out there. They get plenty of exercise and live on sand as a hard surface will give them bumble foot and they will be in pain. I wish you good luck with your decision and hope that it works out well for both you and your Duck.

After watching this video on YouTube, I am inspired to keep a small white call duck as an indoor pet. What type of bedding should I use for this Amazon basics cage? And how much water do small ducks need for 8 hours a day?
Duck poop smells really awful and attracts flies if you do not keep the cage clean and dry. So, you will want to use an absorbant bedding like wood shavings; either pine or cedar. Change the bedding when it gets wet so the duck does not have to stand in wet dirty bedding all day. A bale of bedding will probably last a couple of weeks and only costs about twenty dollars.

The duck will need a water bowl deep enough for it to wash it's nares and wide enough to get in and bathe. Three inches deep and 10 to 12 inches wide should be plenty. It will take food from the feed bowl and then go to the water bowl to wash the food down. Ducks are not tidy and will splash its water wetting the food and bedding so you should plan to clean the cagee at least two or three tmes per day; You could change it before leaving for school, again when you you return, and then again in the evening. It will take some dedication to clean the cage every eight hours or so for the rest of it's life (about ten years) but you can do it.

You will need a place to put the duck while the cage tray is being emptied, washed and the bedding replaced. It would be more convenient to have two cages so the duck can be moved directly from the dirty cage to a clean cage.

To keep the duck healthy and happy you will need to take it outside to walk around, forage and get some sunshine. This will only take thriity to sixty minutes each day and is well worth the effort.

How about you tell that to Petco?
I don't know why you think coming on here and making a bunch of accounts with the same type of scenarios about keeping birds indoors that shouldn't be is going to change Petco's mind about how they keep parrots.
Petco does not keep birds as pets. They expect someone to buy them and give them a good home. My friend that had one let it climb all over the outside of the cage and have free range of a room she kept it in. We keep our dogs in a kennel at night and they are fine because they are sleeping. It would not be fine for them to be there during the day all day as they want to move around and be social with people in the house. People are only looking out for your Duck and not trying to attack you. A duck kept that confined while sleeping might be fine but not during the day when they like to be out and about.

FIRST of all, the Amazon basics cage is 49 inches long and not the standard 30 inch guinea pig cage. The reviews on Amazon are nearly five stars. SECOND call ducks are small ducks.
I have seen the YouTube videos as well and I agree with @fatty and friends because even though call ducks are small they still need lots of space and even in the YouTube videos the ducks are never kept in small guinea pig cage and usually have a whole room for themselves and there is never only one duck there always more than one because ducks can die from loneliness unless you are going to be 24/7 with your call duck and are willing to take it everywhere with you, you have to get it anthor duck friend

Also I have Call Ducks and I know what size they are. I also have Finches in my house in a three foot long cage. I only have two of them in it and that gives them plenty of room to move around. Call Ducks are not tiny compared to a Finch or other small bird. Be fair to your Duck. Don't think because it is a Call Duck that it is only a couple of inches long, they are much bigger.

Ducks can stretch really tall. They need to flap their wings, stretch their legs back, and be able to run around and jump. That size cage isn’t fit for one Call Duck, and definitely not two (which you should have 2 and never only 1)
