Inspiring Story: Teacher, Transplant Recipient, and Chicken Enthusiast

Where! I can feel the excitement. I am sure younger kids are so good fun and 50 times easier to motivate! I think a year of teaching elementary school may do me some good! I'm sure you could share all sorts of things about rain since you guys were rained out. Kudos! Keep it up! Allow them to explore and problem-solve!!!!!

My new flock keeps expanding. I've added a White Leghorn hen, a Black Jap ma and baby, a Black Modern Game, an Ameracauna bantam, 2 Barred Rock bantams, a Partridge Cochin, and a White Polish.

I'll take pictures soon.

Hello BYC World!

I did get to spend time outdoors yesterday. I grabbed my blue lawn chair, a bottled water, a bag of bread and my apple core jar, and let the chickens out into the wide yard. It was amazing. I even dozed off a bit.

I got word that my bilirubin has dropped down to a 2.7 (It should be between 1.5-2.0; it WAS at 19). However, my liver numbers have kind of hovered about the same (high) areas.

Treatment #3 begins today. I'm about to pack an overnight bag - just in case. My final treatment is the 23rd. And immediately afterward I have to begin another an IVIG treatment....on THanksgiving! Yuck. All of my family is in VA, so I can't make plans. So I'll be online a lot that day.

A Luke Neal fund has now been established to assist Mr. Neal with his medical and living expenses while he is on medical leave and undergoing life-saving treatment. Thank you so much for the prayers and support received thus far!

If you would like to make a financial donation, you may stop in at any Wells Fargo (formerly Wachovia) branch and state that you would like to make a donation to the Luke Neal acct ending in 8138.

Again, thank you so much. We hope that this makes it easier for those who would like to offer financial support.

(Another special shout out to StOOpiD for already reaching out. Imma name a chicken after you. lol)

Aww, thanks! Glad to hear you're doing better. I was on an anti-inflammatory drug once, my bilirubin went thru the roof. The Dr. basically inferred I was an alcoholic.
Long story... anyway, I was going in for more testing, and just happened to read that paper that came with the RX.
"may cause false-positive bilirubin".... WOW big surprise.
You have to be informed, and it's great that everyone here is a little piece of information to add to the puzzle.
Hope to hear from you a little more often! Roberta

Yeah Luke,

I'm glad you got to spend some quality time with your chickens.

Yesterday I planted bulbs with three students who were excited to go out in the rain. Luckily I brought my gardening clogs so I didn't get too muddy. We also worked on sequencing a story, starting to learn "what is a question" (as opposed to a "story" - kindergartners are great at telling everything that happened yesterday...), and a listened to Lenape folktale.

My son's birthday is on Thanksgiving, we will be thinking of you, sorry you have to spend it getting a medical treatment...

We all need to say thanks for the wonderful pwerson Luke is and pray for him to be restored. I know he will be in our thoughts here and we are glad to see that you got to spend some relaxing moments with your flock. The animals are great therapy! Stay strong and keep us all informed.

Glad to hear you had a good relaxing day with your chickens! Very glad your doing better, too. Good luck with your next treatment. It's tough that you're going to be in the hospital for Thanksgiving. Hang in there! We'll keep praying for you.

Not much new today. Heat is not working so it's FREEZING. But more time to cuddle with the pup, Carson, and give myself some bedrest (the enemy!)

A friend, and others have ben working diligently to fundraise for the cause. Of course it is your choice, but I'd appreciate the kindness of my BYCers (not that you haven't been SO kind already.

Watch and Enjoy. She is a character!
