Insulation in Ceiling??

Insulating the roof/ceiling is more important the side walls.

If I had to do one or the other I"d do the ceiling.

Heat rises.

It's dark now, but I could take some pics tomorrow if you really want to see them. They are just white vents, 10x10, from Home Depot, screwed into the siding.

I went to your page last night and read it so I do not need the pics, but thanks. It was a big help for hubby and I to read that:D.

Patandchickens has a great page dedicated to ventilation. She really knows what she's talking about

We also went to that site and read up on what was said there. It confirmed that we are to place as many vents as we can in the coop. We do have some soffit vents around the coop.

What is your roof made of?

It is plywood with tar paper and then shingles. We did place vents in the soffits but knew we needed more than that.

Talking with hubby last night, his idea is where we have the soffit vents, to "not" insulate that run of the ceiling at all. There is (1) vent on each of the N~S~E~W overhangs but we can add more if needed (and he did do that "huge" overhang for the rain factor).

We currently have 20 babies that are 17 days old. We started the coop with 15 in mind and well, you know how it goes, last minute I decided to get 5 more.

The coop is 8 x 12 and the living quarters for the babies will be an area of 8 x 9 (darn, should have made it BIGGER). The first 3 ft when walking into the coop is for feed and storage. At this time, we have stalled at the insulation/venting/closing in the walls stage until we can figure out the best thing to do for them.

BTW - That lovely overhang will do wonders for keeping rain out of your coop

He said that he did do that "huge" overhang for the rain factor, but he is known as "Mr Overkill" with anything he does

Thanks. As always, I should listen to him (did I actually say that, sorry ladies) but (and yes, there is always the but) I am "itching" to get this done, like yesterday
