update: it has taken FOREVER to finish the coop, so after the quarantine time, the silkies went into the coop first. they are totally scaredy cats....
because it took so long to finish the coop, the chickens had time to free range together and see each other. when we put the leghorns in, we used a see but dont touch cage. they were hanging out with each other, so my dh decided to let the leghorns out and hang with the silkies. i know they have to establish the pecking order, but it is sad. the silkies are SO scared they hang out in the corner of the 80sqft run. in addition, the silkies have a basket they like to sleep in. the leghorns have totally been roosting, but now, they want the basket. that was weird. i just stay until they settle down at night-silkies in basket and i move the leghorns to the roost. everyday is a chicken adventure.
