Hello Matthew! Welcome to BYC! Sounds like you have a nice flock! I think it is pretty safe to say most of us love our birds as you do! We have 23 and I love each and every one of them! I wouldn`t beat myself up to much over having to kill the skunk... I do not like killing animals either but sometimes it has to be done. I feel as you do every time, but I know I did the right thing. I do not take ending a wild animal`s life lightly! It is human to feel like you do! Compassion is part of being a good human being!

Hello my name is Matthew im 30 years old and live in a small town in Mason County Wv, I have about 35 hens and 2 roosters most of my chickens are Salmon Faverolle and Brahma and a few White silkies, been raising chickens for a little over 5 years now my coop has a run of 20x20 with a enclosed area of 15x15 with about 10 nesting boxes taking care of chickens is a hobby of mine and I enjoy being a chicken dad, my chickens also get to run at daytime in a 55 acre field and they enjoy that alot, I show my roosters and some hens at the local fair sor a hobbies as well, I also have ducks, geese, goats and turkeys and about 15 guineas i love the farm life and taking care of animals i also volunteer at local animal shelter and take in mistreated and neglected livestock and that is my passion. Thanks for letting me be a part of this group didnt know there was groups like this that love chickens as much as I do.

It hurts to dispatch any of God's creatures but it hurts more if they get taken out because you didn't provide the appropriate security/ protection.
