Interested in budgies, but I have some questions

Thank you very much for your reply. I don't live near anyone who owns chickens, and none of the people I know own chickens either.
I won't be bringing any new chickens into the flock.
My chickens don't free range, but I do let them out into a netted area at least once per day.
So, I guess if I keep the budgie and the chickens healthy, there will be very little risk of anything being spread, right?

Bingo. Can't spread what isn't there.

But you don't always know what IS there, hence chicken shoes and washing up. ;)

Okay, great. That definitely gives me comfort.

I have one more question for right now. I've been reading a lot of conflicting information about the diet. What do you feed your budgies?

Sorry, this reply is kinda late, and @oldhenlikesdogs has given a response, but I just wanted to add some info based on my research and experience.

Small parrots, like budgies, should be fed fresh vegetables as the main part of their diet with a good quality seed mix for supplementation.
I make a veggie chop for my parrots that I freeze into small portions and give to them every morning. You can then give them seed in the afternoon. Veggies should make up most of the diet with seeds around 20%.
When you do buy the seed mix as well, you have to get a good quality one, not just a supermarket seed that would have no nutritional value.

There has been some good info on this thread, but here's a link to an article I made that covers most of the stuff I have to say for some extra info.

Whether it's a macaw you're getting or a budgie, all parrots are a large commitment that shouldn't be taken lightly. So, make sure you do your research and consider all the factors to make sure you make the best decision for you and the bird.

Hope this is helpful :)

Thank you for this! It's definitely not too late, and I appreciate any information I can get. I'll take a look at your article too.
