I am very glad to join this group. I live in NW Arkansas and have 25 chickens, some mixed, some lavender Orpingtons, as well as blue Marans and a couple GL Wyandottes. I want to start raising all the broilers my family will eat and I want to get a white breed. I have processed homraised chickens many times, but the colored pin feathers take so much time to clean up or else the skin is ugly. I would love to hear from any of you as to the breeds you recommend. Right now, I am considering White Rhode Island or Cornish.

Hi & :welcome

Great that you could join us all here! Those are some nice breeds you have there. I’m sure if you pop by our meat bird section the members there will be able to help you with all your broiler questions ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/meat-birds-etc.21/

Good luck and enjoy your time here on BYC :frow

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I'm sure you already know of the popularity of the cornish crosses. I understand Delawares were once very popular meat birds. I don't currently raise my own meat birds but would very much like to. Processing them myself is more than likely not in the cards. Too soft-hearted.

I like the Cornish X birds they get a bad rap a lot of the time just don’t over crowed as they poop a lot. They are so much better eating than store bought birds you won’t believe it. Once you get passed about a five pound bird the feed conversion is not very good. I don’t care about the cost so I shoot for a 9 pound bird that dresses out at about 7 pounds.
