Internal laying again?

Thanks. Honestly, I just want my hens to be healthy and happy. I have no dreams about breeding, shows, eggs, or anything else except happy hens. I absolutely hate the idea of them coming down with reproductive issues down the road.

Curious... what do you hope your line will do?
They will be for both meat/eggs, but I do hope they will live longer (the hens) with less reproductive problems. Reduced egg production, but will lay into later years with no problems. Hatchery birds are being bred to produce eggs, that is what people want, so I get that-supply and demand, but it seems like these birds burn out quickly.

@rebrascora thank you for posting. My dad had already disposed of the carcass before I returned from work. The part of me that didn't like the idea is relieved but I'm disappointed because I worked myself up to do it. I want to read more about it and watch videos so I'll be prepared if the time every comes again. Thank you again eeveryone for you help and thoughtful words!

Oooh! Very curious to see how that goes. My only NH experience was Rusty. She was hatchery, very dainty (to the point that her nick name from my son was “Daint”) and you know the rest of that story. Bridge is also hatchery, but seems pretty robust so far. We’ll see.
