I’m wondering if anyone has ever put a internal “nesting box” in their coop. By the quotations i mean does anyone have a section in their coop, like a corner, that has a piece of 2x4 in front of it so it makes a triangle that the hens can lay eggs in. In our coop plans i have two nesting boxes, but i’m not sure if that’s enough for 7 hens!

Its enough for 7 hens. I have 3 for a flock of 23 and they mostly only use two of them, although they have started using the third recently. I have 3 boxed nesting boxes inside the coop. And yes, the hay is over towering the EEs! 🤣

I actively discourage floor nesting.

I'm going to make a ground nest in the broody area that I plan on building, but I don't want eggs at ankle height, I want them where I can reach them no matter how bad my arthritis is right now.
It would be an idea to make a corner “nesting” place that’s about hip level to me. (i’m under 5’) so it would be like maybe 2-3 feet off of the ground?? Meaning it would be build with a 2x4 and some plywood

chickens don't care so please yourself. my ten birds use two of four boxes. they are 3 1/2 feet off the ground. i keep them wired closed until the point of lay. When one of them squated i pulled the wire off. as i turned my back from pulling the wire one of the girls flew past me into the nest. over the last two years i have rarely had an egg not in the nest.
