Hi folks, first time hatcher here, home incubator with 3 duck eggs aboard.

Today is day 26, so last night I candled for one last time and put the incubator into lockdown. I numbered my eggs 1, 2 and 3 and when candling I could see that egg number 1 was already internally pipping.

We are now almost approaching 24 hours since this and I haven’t yet heard him/her cheep/peep at all. Could it be that his/her bill was pushing into the membrane but hadn’t yet pierced it? Do they always make noises and move around during the internal pip stage? I have attached a photo so you can see what I saw.

I’m a very nervous duck mom so any help appreciated.

Many thanks,
Laura

Yeah it looks fine. It hasn't internally pipped yet. That is shadowing. It means there is usually about 24-36 until internal pip. They can't peep until they internally pip. Leave them alone. I would put them into lockdown. It won't hurt even if its early. They can get in position to hatch. Just don't up the humidity too much yet. You can stop turning them.

Looks fine. Leave it alone! Ducklings take awhile.
Thank you so much for your reply.

I read something that said to intervene 24 hours after internal pip if there’s no sign of an external pip, so that they didn’t run out of air. But I’m guessing if he/she hasn’t made noises yet, they aren’t breathing yet!

I will leave alone and be patient. Thank you.

Actually for ducks it's 36 hours. They're very slow. They are good strong hatchers, don't worry.

It’s great to know that it’s just shadowing and I don’t need to panic yet!

I will leave alone and be patient. Thank you again.

I have locked them down and stopped turning them as of last night, but my humidity is around 75%, would you say that’s too high for now?
