International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you, Our son is 26 years old and the hardest part of taking care of our son. Is knowing we can't keep doing this forever. We will care for him till we absolutely can't. Since my failed rotator cuff surgery resulted in a detached deltoid and bicep. From putting our son in his wheelchair. I am worried this will come sooner than we would like.
Oh my goodness,That's a horrifying thought. I just couldn't imagine.

I would keep blue and green! Those are my two favorites and they are maturing out just beautifully! Well done! I would rehome black, but it would be nice to rehome him to someone that you are friends with to keep him handy in case you need him.

They look so good! Their lacing is very pretty! <3

I've been chatting with Harvey pretty regularly and learning a great deal from him. He has helped me in deciding which to cull and which to keep lately. He is an extremely nice person. :D

Thank you, They are Beautiful. You can tell Harvey has put a lot of time into them. I chat with him all the time too. He is very nice! I wonder if he is getting tired of me asking questions. Lol

Really It's just for me. It's kind of a out for me. The one thing I truly enjoy. Don't get me wrong sometimes I get frustrated with them. I wonder why I keep doing this! After spending so much money on my last Marans. I just about give up. I didn't want to breed forward those yellow legs. I just want to continue working towards the SOP to improve the breed. I have a severely disabled son. So showing for me is probably never going to happen. I thought about the local fair though. I am not going to sell many of them. Maybe a couple batches a year to help pay the feed bill.

just improving the breed is reason good enough to breed them. I don't show too but that does not stop me wanting to have quality birds.

what really counts is not how long it lasts but how much love there is. your son is lucky to have parents like you.

Nah he is a hoot! Lol I ask him a million questions too. He has a great sense of humor and cracks me up! Yes he has done very well with his birds. I am tempted all the time to ask him for a pair of grow outs, but I am committed to my lines and Im going to stick it out with them. :)

Thank you. Isn't it funny how fast they can change? Blue didn't look that great even 2 weeks ago!

Yes it is crazy how fast they change! Ive went out and looked for a bird before and couldnt even find him because he looked so different. Ive had to catch them and check wing bands before just to find the bird I was looking for. Lol

I would check their underfluff under their hackle also when you get your hands on them. Make sure the base of each feather has nice grey fluff and isnt white. Open their wings and make sure there is no white there also. Feel their breast bones (keel) and make sure they are nice and straight down the midline of their breast/belly and not crooked.
