International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

This is #632.. son of Queen and Maximus. Born 5/12/18 so he is 6 months old. Current weight 5.18 lbs. According to my records he had good hatch down at birth.

I like that his tail is low right now.. means it will likely have proper angle when he matures and not be too high. He has the comb of his grand mother, Sheraz.. twisted. But that is not a big deal to me right now. His sister has the same problem and she is getting ready to be a show girl. Lol.

His chest is free from leakage so that's a plus. Nice long back, wing angle good. He is a little more narrow in the back end than I would like. He also has his sire's halo, but he is the best contender right now for my BCM line. He has younger brothers free ranging but they are too young to tell much about.

And here he is.. on my kitchen counter. But you wouldn't expect any less from me would you? ;)

*Pardon the mud on him.. it's been raining here. I should have cleaned him up before his photo shoot. lol

agree with you .he has great long back and great tail also .that what you need for a moment , but .
I agree as well with Chickengr .he is far too black ,no shoulder coloration at 6 months old .
watch that .never work with a black shoulder rooster . will throw you far back in you breeding program .
the brother you lost was superior than him for miles . wait for the young one and see how he turn up .

My birds are always slow to color up. They are very slow to mature. I really think he will color up fine but we'll see.

I would use him for olive eggers only. I think he is too dark with 2 faults (halo and twisted comb). I bet you have better roos.

As of right now he is the oldest. His brothers are still babies. I will wait on them to grow out. I have one mahogany cockerel left from the Mashburn cockerel but I don't like him much. We are probably going to eat him soon.

Here is a picture of my favorite two Blue Copper.
I prefer the white tug cockerel .correct Blue plumage .correct copper .
they still young .

Thank you, He is also my favorite. I hope to get some update pictures of my Marans when I get back home. I am worried about frostbite. It has already been down to 20 degrees. I will put up a light when I get back. I hope they will be ok.

I like this hen even she is a square type and tail is too high .but the rest is all greatness .
here what I like about her.
mass ,she seem huge and heavy
head correct ,strong full of vigor,
Comb ,good .small ,with a correct number of point . front of it is free free extra small point ,nice clean no bend no twist .
wattle ,round ,small and free from fold or split
eyes .good
ears lobe ,small red nice shape .
I like the way her head meet the neck .sign of strength .her son s will inherit that .
Neck ,strong well arched and has enough copper
chest .very deep
abdomen well developed .great sign of a good layer
feet and shank .lovely .short ,well feathered and spaced
rear .wide and close to the ground .
plumage ,great color and gorgeous lacing . free from any fluff
under feather ,nice color free from any white.

paired with Duke will throw some great progeny

good luck my friend

I was told by two different Main Marans breeders not to be too worried about an occasional white foot feather. Body type is so much more important. I was told just pull it.

good breeders will not pull the parasitic white feather out .they ll breed it out .other wise why they are called breeders ?

breeding is an art and science . need some know how and a keen eyes , plus a fat note book . photos are great too .
