International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

because of sex linked genes .
the hen only passes her sex linked genes to her sons only .
the rooster will passes his sex linked genes to both of his progeny .
using BC rooster as a breeder over BLC hens will maintain the uniform under fluff and plumage . plus the quality of the copper .
the Blue gene seem to dilute the copper ,especially if line bred .the Blue and the copper will get mashed out with time .

breeding the Blue is the most complicated work a person can do . because the Blue never breed true . need Black to maintain it ,

I have over 50 BLC pullets no 2 of them look a same . if I had 50 BC will be different story .they will look impressive uniform Black .
No more BLC breeding for me , only keeping few for a look that all . I will breed BC from them and I will sale them next year . lot people after them ,not me .

I talked to the person who I got my birds from. He thinks the pen my original chicks came from was BLC X BLC. He did get BC from that pen with no white. I will p.m you!

My best prospect:

Chooks man, this is chick #1 you guessed would be a nice one at hatch.

agree with you ,has too much feathers .hope he does not develop vulture hocks . the bottom of his thigh where they meet the shanks are feathering fast and long ..
but he is awesome looking dude for sure .let him do more growing and we will see who he does .
I really like his stand .Elegant and proud , will make a good rooster .

We will raise him up to eat.
I may have one more cockerel in the coop but small and not sure yet.

My first hatch (that i had to cull all) with the same parents gave me beautiful chicks. This hatch with the same parents....not so good.

he is not awful . who said that . he has a lot good stuff going for him . his feet feathering look better than the first cockerel
only bad thing I will say about him ,his head has too much white . but good comb .good eyes . love his vigor . look sharp .
give him time they change so much next few months .

I was afraid of that with the last hatch. I was sure that was happening and they grew in fine. Im expecting these ones to do the same.
