International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Yes, BCM x Splash will produce 100% blue chicks. The problem with Splash is that you can’t really see the true color of the bird because the diluter genes washes out the color. With that said, I have done this type of pairing with good results. My Splash hen had good type, redish-orange eye and was my darkest egg layer (#7) but she only laid 2-3 eggs per week. Here are some pics of the BLCMs I hatched from the BCM x Splash Pairing. I still have these BLCM and they lay as dark as their Dam.
Thanks for the reply and pics. 3 eggs a week is all I get from my dark layers. It is all about the color right! I know, I know type all ways comes first. TOM

Im very curious about the shipping containers. They are metal. How will they stay cool even with the shade cloth.

I know that you know what you are doing, im just full of questions.

That sounds like an awesome set up.
Very organized and i can see how this would be an excellent coop plan.

And you living there makes it even better. I know it must be a pain in the arse not being close to them.

I miss the farm we sold. If i knew i would be breeding bcm a year ago, we would not have sold it and moved. I miss the land. There was 13 acres. Here, i have no room to build anything else.

But i have a huge deck on the front of the house with a lot of room under it.......hmmmmm...

I do have a shipping container as. Chooks coops work well. When it is hot during the day time they go under it. Always cool there.

I banded the cockerels last night. Tonight I need to band the pullets. None of the younger pullets came out of the house. Here are some pictures of 3 BC pullets and one BLC pullet that's the same age as Black Jack and Ace. I didn't get very good pictures. This will have to do till everyone has bands.

They are stunning type and we'll marked all the BC pullets have a correct small thin pointed tail. Not the BLC she have a square tail like the boys.

Dark eggs layer are bad layers some times. Marans hen should lay 180 eggs a year 4 eggs a week.

My line is not quite as dark but still nice. They are pretty good layers though. For as much as they lay the color is still pretty good. Right now I only have 6 or 7 old enough to lay. I only have one or 2 still laying. The rest have shut down.
