International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

And here are all 3.
First, second and third day left to right.
Im not sure if they are all from the same pullet. 2 out of 3 from this line look ready to lay going by their combs and face.

Can you tell im excited?!
I just wanted to share with you fine folk.

After having to cull everything this past spring, it makes for an extra long wait to see eggs.

Nice egg color! Eggs #2 & #3 have a great shape and texture - looks to be from same pullet. I’m excited for you!

Remember that young BC cockerel with the long tail. He hatched from Violet the long tail BC hen. This is him now and he is out of my youngest hatch.

I need smaller tails.

I see a lot of long tails in marans in the U.S. Hard to find good breeder stock with correct shorter tails it seems.
Just my own little experience.
I will look through pictures and see if I can find the pictures of him. I only had the one hen with a long tail. I culled her and all her offspring. I was afraid of that long tail getting passed on.

I see what you mean with the long tail.
He grew into it though!
Well i'll be darned.

It just goes to prove that sometimes we need to wait and let our chooks grow out to see what happens.

Hmmmm....how many times have i been told that. Haha
I was surprised when we went out to thin the cockerels and he looked pretty good. I was like how did that happen! I have been so incredibly buisy that I didn't notice.
