International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

if @Bantambird want to listen to me ,she should breed this 2 with her white marans line . this 2 crossed to a white line they progeny will be show quality 100% .
I ll mate the cockerel to a best white hen. =they progeny will be split white F1 C { cockerel }
I l mate the pullwt to a white marans rooster = they progeny will be split F1 P { pullet }
2 end year = I ll mate F1C to F1P and F1P to F1C = 2 type of F2 ,keep the white from each line . they should be some stunning show quality bird in there for sure .
I m not telling what to do ,I m just sharing with you how I think to fix the lines .

Definitely working on convincing my husband that more pens is good, but he gets worried about " chicken math". He says if I have more chicken pens, I will get more chickens. Yet I hatched 600 birds this year and managed to sort down to around 70 ( I think)
I sell a lot of chicks so I know I miss some potentially great keepers going to other people, but I guess that's the risk when selling chick's to support your bird addiction.

if we keep all the chicks we hatch we will be in big trouble .you have to the extra to keep your breeders going .
so now you don t have the white any more ?

I can not stop looking at this cockerel .what a type .
only problem is the parasitic white in his feet feathers ,on the base of his tail ,there is some lighter fluff sticking out there , and in the base of the tail main feather ,there is some white or light reflection ?
I think this cockerel is related { brother } to this pullet @Bantambird will correct me .View attachment 2906014
they exhibit a same traits including the white on they feets , they have a same body type and every thing else too .
@Bantambird has other pullets free from the white .I did comment on them before .
I really like the body type /tail /comb of this tow never mind the parasitic white . they have a proper marans body type /tail and comb. very rare this days .

this guy has a best marans head and comb .true old school marans . my BLC rooster Conan the Barbarian has a same small comb and now lot of his son s have a similar small comb . That is a type of comb I m trying to breed to my flock .
this type of rooster with samll comb will never produce pullets with bent comb .impossible except if the mothers have a horrible combs .

This guy's head is so nice.
I have a Mr Big, the is massive.View attachment 2906383
His silver is very nice but his saddle is rather sparse for silver right now. He's pretty young yet so this may change, but he's probably a pound (0.5 kg) bigger than the other cockerels.

last cockerel is solid as a tank ,the saddle will take time to fully form ,

Star is looking pretty alright despite his points getting damaged last winter. His white is so nice for an outside white rooster. Would like longer back, though.

he is absolutely stunning .love his head and comb .true marans old school .like the other silver black cockerel .
you should mix the silver Black cockerel I like to the white strain to add more length into they back . they have similar heads and combs ,so you will breed this treat true without too much inbreeding .

Having issues with certain pullets in the white group shutting down laying early. Could come back, but looking at co.bs on the 4 white ladies has only one active layer. At least she is a pretty nice girl.View attachment 2906402

she is adorable , true white and true marans looking too . love to see her with a better comb .
if your white are not a good layer ,than you have to cross them to your silver black to restore the vigor and add more length to them and to increase the laying ability .

mate you white rooster to the silver black pullet I like .
mate this gorgeous white hen to your silver black cockerel I like . like I told you . your line is not far off from been corect in all the area ,so you don t need to hatch 100 of them I will say 2o/25 chicks of each pair for the first yea . I think it is worth it ,it is no point breeding the white to the white ,they progeny will become very bad layer ,you don t want to breed this bad treat true in you white line .
outcrossing it is your best way to fix it .
