International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Do you notice a difference in the 2 lines?
yes there is a big defference between all the line in Oz ,because they come different origine .
the last import marans from the UK most of them are English type .clean legs ,not all .and they are taller on they feet , .some of them don t lay dark eggs .
they cross well with a old french lines . they produce what cull hybrid vigor .bigger birds . most of my BC / BLC / Splash and cuckoo are 50% OZ line and 50% import line .
I do have all sort of line in my farm .old and new import .
for me the standard is a same breeding to the old frensh style marans what the SOP call for . balanced farm hen no extreme .

How easy is breeding feathered legs in and out? Because my Marans are French but I’m in England so some English standard would be nice. I know I’d have to get some new birds without feathered legs. Feathered legs is dominant, right?

Breeding clean legs is easy job you only need to introduce one bird with a clean legs ( no feathers). You will get some chicks with feathers legs and other without. Breed the clean legs together and you will get a majority of the chicks with clean legs.
Here in Oz both standard are accepted feathered legs ( French type) and clean legs ( English type ) . 2 standard in one country .

First time free ranging for a lot of these birds because of bird flu lockdown. Taking in turns to do some weeding before I get the veg in and they can’t come out again for a while.

I didn’t think there was a successful vaccine. Also there isn’t a vet which takes birds near me.
The Brahma is called Blue (hence my username), my first chicken. Glad you like him. He’s 2 foot seven. My dad’s friend was giving us chickens, five of his old Laying hens and five of the Brahmas he hatched out. When I entered their pen, he immediately stood out, I only wanted hens at the time but took him even though he was already showing to be a cockerel. If it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t be interested in breeding chooks. He looked blue as a chick, but eventually became more splash. After his more recent moult, he’s lost some leakage too, so he looks even better. It’s a shame he’s sterile. Had to get another roo but kept him. Other roo recently died, so I’m currently hatching some eggs out for a replacement.
