International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind me popping in with a question.

I picked up a pair of 8 week old black copper marans cockerels 10 days ago, and they seem healthy. But one of them has a light colored bump on the top of his beak, right at the lower edge of the comb. There are several threads here that show the same thing, and it seems like Marans have this issue more often. And none of the threads resolved what the issue is. The other's beak looks fine.

My guess is that it's just from damage caused by pecking through a fence, or something similar. But maybe it's some kind of virus or infection. Here are some pics of both birds.

Thanks!

I had one like that and it was from rubbing against the wire. So hopefully it's just damaged but I would keep your new ones away from the rest. Just incase any of them might be sick. Better safe than sorry!
Thanks marchick. I quarentined them for a week and I didn't see any problems, other than the two of them starting to go crazy from being confined. I probably should have kept them separated longer, but they are integrated with the flock now. Not totally accepted by the pullets yet, but they are together.

Thank you Chooks man. I'll take some more pictures if they quit moving around so much. They are pretty active.

This is the sire of the 13 chicks now. I know you haven't seen any updated pictures of them in a long time. To me it is a win that at over a year old he has no white in the feathers at the tail base. I don't see any white fluff sticking out but I haven't caught him and checked.

Chooksman, This is the rooster that was attacked by the turkey. His color looked better today and he was actually showing interest in a hen. I walked out and picked them some organic kale. Maybe worming and vitamin b 12 complex will help. Starting them all on it today. He lost tips and I think a point in his comb. He's lucky to be alive but won't be any good if he can't be used for breeding.

Hi Everyone! I hope you have all been well! Sorry I have been absent for so long. I really have some back up reading to do! I only did 1 hatch this year. They hatched a couple days ago. My rooster that was beat up he is not fertile He never fully recovered and his comb looks pale. I think I need to worm them and see if that helps. I hatched 13 chicks 4 blue 9 black. One in the first picture has a brown spot on his head. I think maybe one other also has a brown spot.

welcome back! nice chicks as usual!

Love his stance and body type . Stunning tail . His shoulder look to have less color or just my phone . I ll wait to see him on my laptop this evening . I really like him.
