OK. You asked for it! I took 100 pics this morning. Here are a few of them.

These are looking at a cat I chased away. This one's showing a white wing feather, which I guess is not desirable?

The only way I can tell them apart is that the dominant one has a small white bump on the top of his beak.

They are good looking cockerels . Don t to worry about the white on the wing feather will molt out . The cockerel without a white is stunning he is miles better and has a correct body type .

Go to a French Marans club . All in English . You can read about the standard and all the thi k you need to know.
It is the original French standard just translated to English .

Besides what Chooks man mentioned. Everything to know about Marans is right here in this thread. Start at page 1 and it's a long read. But it's all in here with pics of everyone's Marans to compare and ask questions. Chooks man and his overwhelming wisdom and wealth of knowledge has put it all here for us to learn.
This way too you could quote a post you can't understand and Chooks man can explain it in further detail and you get to see everyone's beautiful birds for comparison.
I'm way new to this and need to reread this thread again but just the other day I asked to start learning more about what the parents (Sire and Dam) each past down to their progeny. Chooks man has offered to start us up with a whole new thread here in a couple weeks that explains just the SOP standards for our Marans and discussion about everything genetics and so forth involved. I'm really excited about that but at the same time it's overwhelming. But we have some great breeders here including @Chooks man , @marchick , @Punkybrewster , @Bantambird , @chickengr ,@NanaK and lots more I'm forgetting atm.

I hope that helps. And ask anything you want. I for one need the refresh info.

It is good to know about Marans but it is greater to know about the line of Marans you working with . What they quality and what they weakness .
In this thread we talk about our Marans and we are trying to make them better each time we breed them .
@Bantambird did a stunning work with her line now she has one of a top nosh Birchen Marans variety in the world .
@marchick she did a same bred a gorgeous BCM from BLCM most peoples thought it is not possible . I remember reading in many thread about BCM where peoples where saying if you breed BLC to BLC all BC progeny is a cull. No sense.
@Punkybrewster look at the cockerels she bred miles better than the ones she start with years ago.
We help each other a lot in this thread . Great quality to have .

Chooks man, I asked my husband if I could hatch 1 more batch of chicks. He was ok with it so I am collecting eggs! Yay! I have 4 out of the 5 hens still laying. The same two Blcm and 2 BC are laying. This for sure will be the last hatch this year. I know he won't go for three hatches. I will need to try and cull a few as early as possible. I for sure do not want any Blcm roosters. They will be the first to go unless you think I need to keep them?
