can you post a pic of your wind breaks? I need to protect my coops for winter.

Yes I can get pics tomorrow. There nothing special tho. Just quick and anything I have here on hand to block the wind for them to get behind. I haven't put a wind break on the new run yet cuz it's not done. The wife picks up ($uper cheap) clear shower curtains at the Dollar stores here that I use to wrap the runs with. There heavier than the clear plastic I used to use.

I think all my spring babies are laying now. There are six of them and some eggs look so much alike. I know at least 2 pullets eggs are speckled.
Loving the color! Pretty good for a hybrid I think.

Very pretty, Nana. Love them speckles... I've got 3 Barred Rocks now laying so I'll definitely have some Midnights laying by fall 2024.

These are the pullets that I said I don't expect to lay until spring. Their combs and wattles are still very small and lack any real bright red color. I’m still new so I could certainly be wrong, I hope I am wrong and the lay sooner. They just don’t look ready to me.

My Marans haven't layed for 3 weeks or so. I probably won't get eggs again until about march. I am in Washington state about the middle of the state. Seattle is a lot warmer and more rain. Our side of the cascade mountains is much colder so we get snow. Seattle rarely gets snow.

I'm mostly getting 1 a day, sometimes 2 from my Marans but the molt is on in full force.

They’ve got a lot of character. When they’re free ranging in the yard they are the happiest. I hatched them in an incubator in my office and they’re definitely imprinted on me and my voice. They follow me around like a cult leader.

I’m amazed at their innate behaviors. They come pre-programmed for survival. Seeing them dust bathing, scratching in the dirt and chasing each other around in the sunlight, it makes me feel bad for all the birds that have to live inside cages or in cramped barns.
