Banana trees???? That is tropical weather, I couldn't deal with perpetual bugs like that. The one boon of my climate, no outdoor bugs for 6 months out of the year, only 3 months of bug season.

Some bananas are semi-tropical. This one is Musa basoo and is hardy to zone 5. It does really well here in zone 8a. Makes great shade for my chicken run in summer but will die back some for winter allowing more sunlight through.
Bugs are annoying here for more like 6-7 months.

Does it produce a lot of banana's, Nana? If so do they taste the same as store bought?
I'm clueless here, never really thought about it but to me a banana is a banana is a banana... All taste the same, store to store no matter what season.

Some years when winter is mild I will get 1 or 2 blooms that set bananas. Our season is not quite long enough for them to completely ripen. This particular variety is grown more as an ornamental as it has large seed.

I like it because it grows tall very fast in spring to give my birds shade and dies back enough so they get more sun in winter.

When my grandson was small he used to giggle and say, "Naner, I want a naner sandwich."
He is a clown!

subtropic ,does get cold in here , most farmer have Bannana plantation close to the cost more west we get is more cattle farming Where I m now .Banana grow well in here

bugs are every where is OZ specialy spider all type ans snake ,you have to watch where to put your feet ,, my bamboo forest lot of them . chooks love to catch spiders ..

bugs, spiders, centipedes, snakes (mostly vipers), some huge lizards, etc. a swedish table for my poultry, lol.

I have my first chicks from my blue copper Marans rooster Eigion. I was worried his lack of leg feathering (just a few feathers) would affect the chicks but thankfully the hens passed on ok feathering. This chick has been named Titanium, chick to my hen Platinum
