International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@wrathsfarm I am so thrilled you found your princess!
I am too. She's been hammering thru the tuna, feed and whole corn/peas (leftover from last night) this morning.
Only cage I had in such a panic last night was just a small one, so I'm going to set her up in one of the big dog cages I have today. That one has a roost in it.
The 3 babies were still integrating at the time so I think keeping her in the house a day or two will get her strength back up and not flock stressing.

I wonder if she laid an egg at first on the concrete and broke it. She would have ate egg, shell and all. This would have helped her hang on a bit longer. I suppose we will never know.

Got something like nutridrench? It is made to be rapidly absorbed. Good stuff!

Tuna is great. Scrambled eggs are good too.
I am so happy she turned up! :wee
I really thought she may show up later with babies. She is a really lucky girl to turn up when she did!
Yes the wife said the same. I even moved some other things thinking I'd find a clutch. Next question is when she'll start back up.

Here's what I have... and yes, scrambled eggs today for sure ♥️

I had to consolidate all the Marans, ducks and 5 pheasants. I had to move birds into the three conjoined houses. The cockerels are in the back pen. I opened up the 2 large pens so the others can go back and forth freely. They are all inside and not allowed out. Our high was 4 degrees F. Our wind chill factor was -20 F. I have heat lamps on but it didn't help. Way too cold!

yeah I probably lost all my combs again this year. It isn't so bad when the cold spells are gradual, but this 30 to -30 stuff is really hard on me and the animals. I keep asking hubby to build me a bachelor coop, so I can put the boys in a more heated space during cold spells. As it is, I give them extra rations and plenty of corn for energy, close the windows and hope for the best. At least over the years they have gotten more hardy.

Oh, I hope not! I hope you got pictures of them. I didn't even get pictures of my cockerels. The cockerels have been in an inside section all winter. I hope they don't lose their combs either. I have been giving them some scratch. I also gave them fresh collard greens before the snow fell. Now I can't get to the greens. When I went out to water. It felt like my lungs where freezing. It wasn't that cold when I fed 4 degrees but now they are saying it was - 25 F wind chill factor. I must have broken a blood vessel in the white of my one eye after watering all of them yesterday. It hasn't affected my site because it's in the white. My eye is looking some better today. It is a really dry cold. The snow is eerily crunchy even though it just fell and it is fluffy.

1 degree F here, -14 wind chill but it's just the start of this cold snap.
One of the girls is going thru a bad molt, and they've on coop lockdown for 2 days now. I'm going to set up the brooder plate for her today so hopefully she can hunker by it for a little warmth.

In other news, I took Raven out yesterday cause she looked so much better towards lunch time. She melted right back in to the rest with minimal bullying from the older girls which we know is typical. She bounced around all day flapping her wings and wagging her tail. At roost time Angel huddled right up next to her for the night.
All is right in the world again... 🥳
