International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

If I’m being honest I think we go off topic a lot anyway, that’s part of why I like this thread. Yes, it’s a BCM thread but I don’t see why we can’t occasionally discuss other topics, especially if they are for the benefit of marans. Healthy birds result in healthy flocks, which helps improve the breed in a way.
I don’t want to overstep, I don’t actually know the ins and outs of BYC’s rules, but after 2000 pages, some talking about olive eggers, some about the weather, and plenty of me going off topic about Brahmas, I don’t think anyone will be too upset by poultry medical questions (if people are happy asking them of course).

This message is supposed to be entirely positive, basically saying I’m sure everyone is happy to help. I’m not great at wording things so excuse me if it sounds different than I intend.
(If people active on the thread decide that we should be more specific to the BCM SOP than I’m happy to take this down.)
I get that but the post was made here for that reason, I overstepped and tagged others which brought about the post deletion.
Again I apologize for not knowing or realizing that.

It won't happen again.

No need to apologize. It's all good! I didn't want to cause problems so I deleted it. I thought maybe I was gone too long and things had changed. I also liked that we are all friends and could talk about other things.

Of course we can talk about things. ❤️
I think she was really trying to get you to move your post to the other thread to help you get more replies, that's all. She is really a very nice and very helpful person.

I have no experience with frost bite if that is what your hen is dealing with. I have read several threads about some really bad cases. It seems to me the best thing to do is keep it clean. You say she is eating and drinking? I'd take that as a very good sign. I'm sorry I am no real help to you. I hope your girl improves.

Look forward to seeing your cockerels!

Thanks, She is eating and drinking and I am keeping it clean. So time will tell.

I have had the reptile lamp going since fall. It doesn't produce light. When they where calling for really cold I added a heat lamp. Now everyone is laying. Look at that pretty pullet egg I collected this morning. I am not sure who layed it but if it stays fairly dark and round. She will find a place in my breeding program.

I listen to the poultry keepers podcast (very entertaining) and they said nutrition can cause white feathers, like feeding stale food that is past shelf life. They said something like chick crumbles only have about 30 day shelf life.
Interesting, the grain is harvested in the summer/ fall and stored till its gone. I would think there are times that its older than 30 days just sitting in the warehouse waiting to go on the shelves.
