Ah right, it’s a saying that doesn’t exist across the pond, at least to my knowledge.

Beautiful! Very nice!I think this might be Chanel’s darkest egg ever, I’m so glad she’s back in lay. Her daughter should start in a few months time, still got some growing to do (she looks a lot like her mum).View attachment 3719760View attachment 3719762
Thank you!Yea you do!
ITs a beauty
I am trying but I am not doing so well at that thus far. With my frostbite pullet. Ugh life sucks sometimes.Yes, please keep her safe.![]()

I’m waiting on the pure breed auctions to start because I need to ho and find myself a new silkie cock, and I thought I may as well treat myself with a good one. My budget for the silkies is maybe £150 for a trio, preferably £100. I sell their eggs throughout the year so I should make my money back from them.
As for marans, I need to keep on hatching some new pullets. Only two hens leaves me quite restricted, I have one blue copper pullet but I really need (and want) more to ensure Chanel’s dark eggs get passed on, I’d also like to see what here sons would look like.
I don’t think this will be this year, but I plan to get some English type dark cuckoos and cross them to my French BCMs to produce a line of English show quality Golden cuckoos with French blood and quality.
For the wellies, I’m less strategic, my main goal is to breed the black out of the boys’ necks and regain pullet numbers.
And for the Brahmas, I’ve just got to pray that Blue somehow manages to sire fertile eggs, but he’ll be three this year and has never had a single chick. If I see a Brahma I like at the auctions I might bid.
Also I can’t wait to hatch my first olive eggers. I have 5 CCLs in with Loki (BCM), Freddy (Wellie X Warren X Brahma) and Spot (Wellie X leghorn), so can’t wait to see all the shades of green I get. Only one legbar is laying right now, even though they are all 30 weeks old, and she already lays a greenish egg rather than blue. I also am going to hatch out some red sex link, white leghorn and

I also am going to hatch out some red sex link, white leghorn and cross breed eggs from the same pen to replace my oldest layers who I don’t expect to last another year or two.
And finally I plan to do some actual weeding so I can actually manage to get a good harvest from more crops than the potatoes!
They are all my plans for the chooks this year, my more elaborate plans like the golden cuckoos might have to wait a few years to be done properly, hopefully I can get them moved onto some land of my own eventually.
