International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

My pullets lay a lighter egg, but they sure are beautiful in person with the red tones and speckles.

No Marans eggs from my hens at all, in fact I have 55 chickens and am only getting one egg a day at the moment. We had snow this week which isn’t going to help.

I’m making my Christmas puddings this Sunday (as it’s Christmas pudding day) and my own recipe species ‘the eggs of three French hens’, but it seems I’ll have to settle for Italian hen’s eggs!

I like him a lot. Can’t see the neutral angle of the tail really but I’ll take your word for it.
He kept his tail down the whole photo shoot, but he was almost rumpless for quite some time, now that I got him banded I can spot him easier amongst the others and I'll try to grab a natural pic of his tail soon.
There's 6 boys all 12 wks right now. (4 from Raven and 2 from Momma) Then 3 more that are only 6 wks that hatched from the 2 pullets I sold.... So I have a few to select thru again I'll need help with. I'm keeping a few of these and hopefully be doing some different matings next year.
I noticed his comb is a little wonky (that's no surprise) but that leg stance looks promising.

Thanks for looking at him and glad you like him also.

I heard the British Isles were getting some winter weather! Mine stop laying by mid October and won't start again until I either turn on the lights or wait until spring. Usually I turn on the lights around mid December so I can start hatching in January. We also got a little snow. I suppose being an island means you get a lot more wet! I am so far inland, it means we get major temperature extremes because there is no nearby body of water to temper the weather. Good luck on those ice storms!
