I am not sure if you remember my black silver (birchen) girl that turned first mottled, and now she is completely white as though she was never a very nicely colored black silver at all. I am still unsure how it happened, but I am so intrigued that I will likely always hold onto her. She jus tturned 2 this year.
I've never had a bird in my flock turn white but found this interesting. I did a bit of research but could never find any more information about the cause of the change. The photo tag just states
"This hen was a perfectly normal Black Marans before her molt

I wonder if this bird ended up totally white?
So interesting.
Do you have a plan to breed your hen?
Do you know who her parents are?
Because parasitic white is prevalent in marans it has me wondering if the strangely mottled individuals are a strange interaction between parasitic white and a heterozygous state for recessive white.
It’s completely a guess but I don’t think there’s any know single known genes which can explain it.
I guess a test mate to a recessive white bird might give us a clue.
I might need some photos where he isn’t stood so tall because I can’t tell his resting tail angle.
Clearly an improvement on the type of your F0s, though, rather ironically, it might be a tad too long vs deep. This is a case of a lack of flesh I would assume rather than issues with his actual bones, so can also fix with age or down the generation. Very nice.
Not over coloured, this batch seems to be fixing that. Maybe the sight of a pale halo but not the worst in the world (and I never know what’s just lighting!).
It sounds like an odd thing to say but I really like his face, just looks like it’s full of character! Comb decent and should erect itself with age, but looks to show a thumb-print (ask if I haven’t clarified what I mean by that before). Wattles good and earlobes good.
I certainly wouldn’t call him a cull at this stage.
