It’s funny because it looks like good plumage to my Welly breeder eyes (my only other duckwing hens are cream legbars, which are only for egg colour, not show), so your issue doesn’t scream out fault to me.Yes they look like the 4A feather. Here is one hen, mind you she has been laying since January and has been with a male the entire time so she is looking a little worn.

Obviously I understand that this is bad for leghorns, it’s just funny how my eyes are trained.
I could suggest breeding blacks into them, hopefully melanisers will darken the shafts. This would then require a second cross back to duckwings to get this variety back out again, hopefully improved.
I have no knowledge if that has ever been done, I’m simply guessing here, so take it or leave it.
The safest way is just breeding in good blood without the fault.
